Viacom, YouTube, Google and 12 Terabytes of Logs

So a few years ago, Viacom sued YouTube…Old news right?

Well, the judge involved in the case thought it was a good idea for YouTube to provide all of the logs to Viacom but - hey - they’ll protect YouTube’s source code…

Well, to me, that’s not really the issue here.

I mean, think about it for a moment…

TWELVE FREAKING TERABYTES OF DATA!!!

This is the same Google that said they were only going to keep user data for 18 months…

Go ahead and upload your private stuff to Google folks!

I’m sure it’s safe…

its about as safe as storing your passport in in a thiefs house. Google will never say no to data, its like an obese child who can't say no to cake.

Well, with 12 TB of data, you could almost imagine it as a pack of Wildabeasts.  If a lion gets hungry enough, it will attack whatever it gets its' jaws around.  The of odds say that your odds of being safe increase with more wildabeasts in your group.  (Your odds of being safe increase with each MB of data google gets).  I for one wouldn't want to cypher through 12 TB of data looking for someons information.

THat's an excellent point that I never thought about. Even with a program to sift through all of that data, it would still be incredibly difficult to find who is breaking your copyright's…G-Man

This is a complete invasion of privacy on the part of Viacom and our user information doesn’t have any relevance to their billion dollar lawsuit against Google. Google should be able to anatomize the user information before handing over 12 terabytes of personal information so my privacy and the privacy of millions like me are protected. I have a campaign that will force Viacom to allow Google/YouTube to protect us or 100,000 will boycott Viacom and all its subsidiaries: hxxps://www.thepoint.com/campaigns/stop-viacom-from-invading-our-you-tube-privacy
