Truly Intriguing Spam

Happened to be looking in my junk e-mail folder today in Outlook.

Now, the fact that this e-mail landed there shows that what they’re doing isn’t quite working - for whatever reason.

However, I did find it rather fascinating.

Look at a snippet from this spam e-mail.

I believe what they’re attempting to do is show you partial words and let your brain figure out what the word should be. You can read more about this particular meme that spread around the internet here:

http://www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/~mattd/Cmabrigde/

Here’s the text that meme distributed:

it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae… it doesn’t matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be at the right place

So what I believe they’re doing is a variation on this concept. Unfortunately, it’s basically gibberish but, amazingly, it got me to look at it for a little bit - and perhaps that’s the purpose?

At any rate, it’s always interesting to see what the email spammers are coming up with next.
