There Are Times When I Can’t Resist the Call

Yes, yes.  I’ve been very very quiet for the past several days.

That usually means I’m scheming.

And if you assumed I’ve been scheming this time…well, you would be right.

It seems the new rage in spam is video sharing sites.  There are quite a few companies that share videos that are big like YouTube.

Well, since those sites are popular and they let you link to their videos, it’s created a whole cottage industry of sites who let you share the videos you’ve already shared or videos others have shared.

They encourage you to post the links to other video sites.

In return, they’ll split the adsense income.  Oh boy…here we go again!

So, I decided to jump in full throttle and check it out.  Of course, I never like to do things manually so I wrote a script to start submitting to one of these sites.

After about 6 hours I’d submitted about 7000 videos.

And then it happened…I was banned from the service.

No worries - this type of stuff happens to me all the time (or used to) so I decided to drop em an e-mail and see what happens…

Thus far, they’re wondering if I’m only interested in the revenue sharing or other parts of the program.  If only the revenue sharing I might be able to get them to reenable it.  That remains to be seen…

The point of this post is that if you’re persistent, sometimes you can turn failure into opportunity.  Whether or not that’ll be the case this time - well - only time will tell!

I'm pretty much a PHP man myself.  Perl has it's uses and is rather powerful especially for string operations but I've never taken the time to learn it.

Do you have a recommendation for a script to develop a video sharing site that splits the adsense income?I would be interested in your script that added those 7000 videos in a matter of hours?   How can we get a copy?Brian

With regards to the first question, I don't know if there is anything that is open source out there or not for a video type of site or not.

With regards to the second question, I am partnering with the company that has the site to help them aggregate quite a few more videos so I can't release the source code.
