PageRank Has Nothing to do With Supplemental Results

Oh cripes! Come on Dave - do you really believe that a higher PageRank means you’ll have less supplemental results???

Every single time I have seen an issue with supplemental results it has come down to duplicate content.

Not part of the time, not most of the time, but all the time when I have seen a supplemental result it is caused by duplicate content.

Let’s take a look at these sites for grins and giggles shall we?

http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.bssnj.com - 12 Supplemental Pages PR4

http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.businessoftware.com - 2740 Supplemental Pages PR4

http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.sap.com - 962,000 Supplemental Pages PR9

No, my friend, what you’re seeing here is not higher pagerank causing less supplemental results. What you’re seeing here is simply quantity of pages pushing out the number of supplemental results.

More people need to read this. I see so many post and mantra chanting about more links when people ask why they have so many pages in supplemental results, yet no one ever looked at their website before changing the answer. From your content to the way your title tags are put together, it’s a lot more than just a link that creates supplemental results, and a lot of seo pros need to wake up and quit saying they are outside of the box, and see that they are just chanting yet another forum mantra about more links, because it’s a lot more than links that send more people into supplemental hell!
