Instant Messaging - Spawn of the Devil!
Just like any other normal person out there I like to chat with people. I do it through e-mail, the phone, rarely letters and of course, in person.
I also use Instant Messaging - some.
However, I’ve found that using IM can be a huge time sink as you’ll find yourself talking to tons of people. Not only that but it’s an interruption to whatever it is that you’re currently doing.
That’s why I keep my IM list small. The less people that have my IM, the better in my opinion.
And never, ever, give it to a client. That’s simply bad mojo. They’ll think they can contact you at anytime - and they will.
While I don’t like IM, I do use Trillian so that, if I need to, I can talk to people in whatever IM client they’re using.
I’ll usually use this to keep in touch with freelancers that I’ve hired. Hey - just because I won’t give out my IM indiscriminately doesn’t mean that I can’t get theirs
