How to Write a Good Sales Letter

Before I start, let me say that I am not a copywriter nor do I play one on TV.

What makes me qualified to tell you “How to Write a Good Sales Letter” then?

Great question!

First, I know how to test. Testing involves using software like GoTryThis and other analytics software to determine what type of results you’re getting from your sales letters. Of course, you can do the usual A/B testing where you first get a control and then try to beat that control.

In fact, that’s what most people have been doing for the past several years. Recently however, Taguchi testing has become popular. This is merely a way to test multiple changes to a sales page at once to get to profibality faster.

Secondly, I keep a close eye on the sales letters that come out and whether those sales letters turn out to be helpful for the promoters or not. I’ve posted a few of those sales letters in this blog and I plan to continue doing so. What I have not done, so far, is to evaluate any of these sales letters with regards to profitablity.

And how would I do this?

Another good question my friend!

It’s simple. I plan to start using Glyphius on these sales letters and give you an idea of how good they are or not.

For those who are not familiar with Glyphius, it is a piece of software that analyzes the words that you type in and rates the tokens within those words. For instance, a word like guaranteed might be broken into two tokens ‘guaran’ and ‘teed’. When you take all of these tokens and score them you get a value for each sentence you put into Glyphius.

Now, a score in and of itself will tell you nothing. However, once you start comparing one headline with another and the second headline has a higher score, it’s at that point that you can tell which one you should use.

Even some copywriters like Michael Fortin are using Glyphius at this point to help them write better sales letters.

Personally I think it’s a great piece of software and I plan on continuing to use it for my sales letters. I’m even planning on using it for the titles of my blog posts!

Incidentally, I’m trying to rank for the use of the keyword ’sales letters’ here. Can you tell? LOL.

G-Man

P.S. Listen to this interview between Michael Fortin and James Brausch - the creator of Glyphius.

P.P.S. Some people have suggested to me that Glyphius is a scam or that GoTryThis is a scam. I would heartily disagree with both of those statements. I believe they’re great pieces of software and use both of them daily.

Edit: Oops.  Broken links for Glyphis
